Ich bin bereits im Besitz einiger Lexika der fantastischen Wesen, u. a. befindet sich in meiner Bibliothek auch das Malleus Monstrorum aus der Cthulhu-Reihe des Pegasus-Verlages und das Buch über die Basler Basiliken.Dieser kompakte Band mit fast 400 Seiten enthält wahrscheinlich alle fantastischen Kreaturen, die jemals in der Literatur aufgetreten sind. Er ist reichlich - wenn auch nicht farbig - illustriert. Druck und Illustrationen sind sepia-farben. Die Informationen sind gut formuliert, das Englisch leicht fassbar.Das Buch ist gebunden und verfügt über eine Fadenbindung.Der Preis ist günstig.Von mir 5 Punkte.

Breverton`s Phantasmorgia ist eins der inhaltsreichsten und informativsten Kompendien über Mythen, Fabelwesen und Legenden, welches mir untergekommen ist und das sind viele gewesen, weil ich Bücher dieser Art sammel.Dieses Buch ist wunderbar zum Schmöckern und vollgepackt mit Informationen und ausführlichen Texten. Die Grafiken sind dafür nichts so schön, aber das gleicht die Fülle an Texten vollständig aus.

Schön geschrieben, man braucht auch kein Englischübersetzer nebenbei liegen und perfekt für zwischendurch!

Ein tolles Compendium rund um Fabelwesen, Mythen und Legenden. So oder ähnlich steht's auf dem Hardcover Einband (der sich übrigens wirklich toll und hochwertig angreift) und ich muss ehrlich sagen, dass ich in jeglicher Hinsicht begeistert bin.Aufmerksam wurde ich auf das Buch in der "Picked by staff" Abteilung des Londoner Geek-Shops "Forbidden Planet". Hab's mir damals nur durchgeblättert und war vom Umfang, insbesondere aber von den unzähligen, detailverliebten Illustrationen her überaus begeistert. Leider war im Handgepäck kein Platz mehr und so musste ich das Nachschlagewerk rund um Vampire, Riesenkalmare (nur um zwei der unzähligen, erläuterten Dinge zu nennen) in England lassen.Jetzt hab ich's nachbestellt bei Amazon, hab's neben mir ständig am Schreibtisch liegen und blättere überaus gerne mal wieder hinein.Kurz zusammengefasst das vielleicht Wichtigste:1.) Toller Umfang (knapp 380 Seiten)2.) Hochwertiger Einband und Druck (kein Recyclingpapier, angenehm Dick; Einband Hardcover und hochwertig in 4 Farben gedruckt)3.) Vom Aufbau her wie eine Enzyklopädie gemacht. Jedes Fabelwesen bekommt dabei mal längeren, mal kürzen Inhalt geboten; dazu auch mal den einen oder oderen ergänzenden Artikel; sehr übersichtlich gemacht, toller Schriftsatz UND eine Fülle an wirklich schönen Illustrationen (schön, dass amazon ja einen schon vorneweg digital in's Buch hineinschauen lässt - hier also bitte mal gerne selber vergewissern, welche Detailverliebtheit dieses Nachschlagewerk hat)4.) Ein lieber Preis, wie ich meine.So, soviel zu diesem Kompendium und frei nach dem Rückentext ("How do you defeat a minotaur?") werd' ich mir mal das eine oder andere "Hausmittel" gegen Vampire im Buch nachschlagen ;) 5 Sterne!
